Caleb Ayong

Executive Director

Caleb’s fascination with language, communication, and community development led him to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in English Language Use and Communication at the esteemed University of Yaoundé 1, a foundation that would propel him to an impactful career. He embarked on a transformative academic journey, earning certificates from renowned institutions including Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the University of Pretoria, and Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University where he delved into the intricacies of global tobacco control and public health policies.

His professional journey mirrors his academic curiosity. He started his career in 2010 as Director of Programs and Production at Radio Health International in Yaounde, Cameroon where he orchestrated intriguing health-focused programs. His knack for storytelling transformed complex health issues into relatable narratives. In 2016, he joined the Cameroonian Coalition against Tobacco as Communication Officer. In this role, he championed campaigns that dismantled myths, empowered youth, and rallied communities. His eloquence turned anti-tobacco messages into powerful calls for change. 

Caleb’s transition to the African Tobacco Control Alliance in 2017 was seamless. As Communication Officer of the pan African alliance, he supported campaigns aimed at accelerating the adoption and implementation of policies to curb tobacco use. His advocacy spanned borders, from supporting partners with the drafting and implementation of communication and advocacy plans/strategies to engaging the African media to support tobacco control initiatives. He has been a facilitator in the training of health leaders in countries like Uganda, Mauritania, South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia, Togo, and Benin, always igniting passion, and equipping advocates with tools to drive policy change.

He is passionate about putting his 14 years of professional experience to the service of Africa as Executive Director of Vital Voices for Africa.

Frida Leyina Voma

Program Manager

Frida Leyina Voma, the dynamic Program Manager at Vital Voices for Africa, embodies the spirit of transformation. Holder of a Master’s Degree in Corporate Communication from the University of Buea, she seamlessly blends her academic prowess with a passion for community development, volunteerism, and entrepreneurship. Frida’s tenure at the University of Buea sharpened her communication acumen, equipping her to navigate complex narratives. Armed with her degree, she embarked on a mission to amplify voices and drive change.

She served as Station Manager at Mediafrique Radio in Buea, Cameroon, where she orchestrated a symphony of voices, committing to community-driven and transformative content. Her leadership resonated whether in highlighting local entrepreneurs or shedding light on pressing issues of the society. She has also served as Communication Director of the Association for Community Awareness where she championed causes close to her heart; education and community empowerment. She led campaigns that sparked insightful conversations, igniting change from grassroots to global levels.

Frida’s impact transcends titles. In October 2018, she delved into the realm of public health, participating in a Neglected Tropical Diseases Workshop in Uganda. Organized by the Neglected Tropical Diseases Initiative (DNDI), the workshop fueled her commitment to health equity. In December 2018 she participated in the State of Public Health Workshop in Kigali, Rwanda. The workshop, organized by the Media for Environment Science Health and Agriculture (MESHA), deepened her understanding of health challenges in Africa. In March 2019, she immersed herself in the world of science reporting, participating in a science reporting training hosted by the United Kingdom Research and Innovation Center (UKRI). Her trip to the UK ignited her passion for evidence-based communication.

Francess Mametz Lombo

Communications Manager

Mametz Francess Lombo, the adept Communication Manager at VVA, weaves narratives that resonate. Her foundation lies in the prestigious Advanced School of Mass Communication at the University of Yaounde 2 in Cameroon where, she honed her storytelling craft, mastering the art of conveying messages across diverse platforms.

Francess’s early career spanned print, radio, and TV. Her ink-stained fingers danced across news articles, her voice resonated through the airwaves, and her camera lens captured moments. Yet, her entrepreneurial spirit tugged at her—a hunger to create, innovate, and build. Her passion for communication remained unwavering. She understood its power; the ability to connect, inspire, and drive change. But she craved more. Self-improvement became her compass leading to her 2023 decision to make a pivotal switch to Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), seeking fresh challenges and growth.

Francess’s pursuit of excellence led her to acquire diplomas in Data Analytics and Project Management. These tools became her chisel, shaping raw ideas into polished realities. She understood that dreams thrive not in the abstract, but in the meticulous execution—from conception to full-blown success.

Mianikpo Klennam

Advocacy Manager

The journey of Mianikpo Klennam, the passionate Advocacy Manager at Vital Voices for Africa (VVA) is an embroidery of communication expertise, leadership development, and unwavering commitment to gender equality. She holds a Professional Degree in Organizational Communication from the Institut des Sciences de l’Information de la Communication et des Arts (ISICA) at the University of Lomé (UL), and her academic background equips her with the tools to bridge communication gaps and drive meaningful change.

Mianikpo’s commitment to ethical leadership led her to Université Laval, where she honed her skills in responsible management. She learned to balance organizational success with social and environmental responsibility. Her dedication extends beyond communication as she delved into peacekeeping operations, understanding the complexities of conflict resolution and stability at the famous Bamako Peacekeeping School. Always in the quest for knowledge, she undertook various leadership and gender equality programs. She champions women’s empowerment, breaking barriers, and fostering inclusivity.

The versatile VVA Advocacy Manager has handled impactful roles in important institutions, notably the Togolese Ministry of Social Action, Promotion of Women, and Literacy, where as Communicator and Project Officer, she amplified the voices of women and promoted economic activities. Her work contributed to sustainable development and gender equity. At the ECOWAS Center for Gender Development, she served as a Project Officer and Communication Consultant to further gender equality across West Africa. She advocated for policy changes, empowerment programs, and awareness campaigns. She has also served as a Program Assistant at the Office of the Secretary of the African Union Commission, where she contributed to continental initiatives. Her dedication to advancing Africa’s agenda remains unwavering.

Mua Carlson

Finance Manager

The journey of Mua Carlson, the astute Finance Manager at Vital Voices for Africa (VVA) is a testament to financial acumen, dedication, and ethical stewardship. Holder of a bachelor’s degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Buea, his academic background equips him with the tools to navigate complex financial landscapes. Mua’s hunger for knowledge led him to numerous finance-focused training courses. He stays abreast of industry trends, regulations, and best practices.

Mua’s meticulous eye for numbers served him well as an Accountant. He studiously managed financial records, ensuring transparency and compliance with some A+ entities, including the Catholic Education Secretariat at the Diocese of Buea, where he showcased his commitment to education and community. He did not only balance budgets, he also optimized resources, and supported educational initiatives.

Mua Carlson embodies financial integrity, strategic planning, and a heart for impact. As Finance Manager, he ensures VVA’s financial health aligns with its mission. His legacy inspires us to steward resources wisely, empowering African voices for positive change.
